I’m sure everyone is now aware of the Intel CPU bugs and exploits that have been publicized over the last 36 hours.
For those of you who aren’t fully aware of the situation yet, I’ll note a number of resources below for you that are helpful in detailing the situation and provide additional perspectives.
At this time:
- We are tracking two bugs – Meltdown and Spectre – that impact all modern CPU architectures including Intel, AMD, and ARM. These issues have been identified to exist across servers, desktops, and mobile devices.
- We are currently working on applying hypervisor patches for all managed systems (internal and customer facing) and will be updating firmware from vendors as patches are made available. If you have a managed service from ServerCentral, you should be hearing from us in short order as these patches are rolled out.
- We are asking all ServerCentral customers to patch their guest VMs and OSs as well. RedHat and Microsoft have patches out now and Microsoft will patch some older OSs next Tuesday (9 January 2018).
- We will continue to work with all of our vendors and, as we are made aware of additional information, patches, etc. will share that with you.
These steps are being taken in response to the Meltdown vulnerability.
Additionally, we are currently tracking resolution for the Spectre vulnerability, for which detailed mitigation steps have not yet been presented by hardware and software vendors.
We will continue to monitor this situation closely and will keep everyone up to date as additional information becomes available and additional mitigation steps are defined.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your account manager or you can submit a ticket via the ServerCentral Customer Portal .
