the risk of not having a disaster recovery plan is huge
The risks of not having a disaster recovery plan are great

The biggest challenge to surviving a disaster event for your company, regardless of size or industry, is a recovery plan. If you invest the time and effort to build out and test a disaster recovery plan, you will be in the best possible shape to overcome the situation, no matter how serious.

According to research from the Ponemon Institute and the Small Business Administration:

57% of SMBs and 47% of mid-sized businesses have no disaster recovery plan in the event of a network outage, data loss, or other IT disaster.

Most businesses do not even have a plan. Business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) plans — and regular testing of these plans — are often seen as unnecessary investments. Nothing could be further from the truth:

  • 25% of SMBs and mid-sized businesses never reopen after a disaster event;
  • 43% of SMBs and mid-sized businesses never reopen after a catastrophic data loss; and
  • 75% of SMBs and mid-sized businesses without a BC/DR plan are out of business in 3 years, regardless of whether they sustain a disaster event or not.
